Posters Save The Day

Happy Tuesday!

Last week, my nephew Alex had his fifth birthday. He’s so big already! Alex’s parents (my sister Sonja and her husband Paul) wanted to throw him a birthday party he’ll never forget! The thing is – planning a birthday party these days is a full time job!

I love my sister and her husband to death, but they tend to be a little unorganized and left the decorations up to the very last minute. Being the amazing sister that I am, I volunteered to help decorate.

Fortunately, Walgreens had me covered with their new Same Day Pickup Designer Poster templates, I customized one with my own pictures, and even added a message to the birthday boy. Best of all, it was ready for pickup in about an hour!

Creating it was easy:

• Select a template (tons to choose from)

• Pick a size (I got the biggest…a match for Alex’s outgoing personality)

• Choose which photos from my albums to put in the poster.

The entire process took less than five minutes. The poster looked fantastic hung above the cake and presents. At the end of the party, all of Alex’s friends signed it with their names!

Needless to say, my sister and her husband were elated that I saved the day with the birthday decorations from Walgreens. I can’t take all of the credit…but I did gladly take an extra piece of cake!

Best Wishes!

I Should Pin That!

Hello friends!

Pinterest. I’ve been crazy for it ever since I started pinning a few months ago. Haven’t heard of it yet? Pinterest is a virtual pinboard that is easy to get the hang of and obsessively addicting. It allows to you share gift ideas, inspiration, recipes, photography – basically anything you can think of – in a really organized, visual way. You can also re-pin and “like” things that your friends have pinned – a neat social experience.

Because I like giving new photo gift ideas each week, I want to share with you a few pinboards we created that I think you’ll love. Our boards were put together with a specific personality type or event in mind to inspire you. Each personality or event also has corresponding photo gift ideas.

Check out a few of our boards:

The New Baby

The Family Historian

The Teacher

If a pin catches your eye, make sure to “like” or re-pin it! What better way to share a few of our coolest and craftiest ideas?

In the meantime, I’m gonna get back to what I have been doing…looking forward to all of the amazing ideas being shared on Pinterest.

Happy pinning!

DIY Photo Wall

We move around a lot. Like this is my 6th-house-in-8-years, a lot. One of the first things that we do to feel at home is to put some pictures up on our walls. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to add character and interest with pictures. All it takes is some 4×6 pictures, a few thumbtacks, and a little time. I have done this project in a few houses, and every time, I seem to make it larger than the last. One day I will actually make wall paper out of 4×6’s! I have also made smaller ones, as simple as four images across and four images down. It looks great in an entranceway, kids rooms, or even a bathroom. You could use square Instagram pictures, the possibilities with this project are endless.

I start by having 4×6’s printed out. I added a white border around mine in Photoshop – though you can easily select the option to have your photos printed with borders when you order through Walgreens. You do not NEED to do this, it looks great without the border too.

Sort through your images, and arrange them in groups. My wall is really large, it takes up an entire wall, so I broke it into smaller, more manageable pieces. I use foto clips to hold the pictures together. ( They are inexpensive, clear clips that help keep the pictures together, and have a hole in them to adhere the image to the wall. I just thumbtacked the pieces to the wall, and the whole thing was done in about an hour, from start to finish.

People always ask me about what happens to the wall when we take it down. People are very concerned with putting holes in the wall. In all honesty, these are thumbtack holes, very small, and very easy to cover back up. A little touch up paint was all it took to have a perfectly clean canvas when we took it down.

Have fun, and let your creativity shine!

Ooh la la…Valentine’s Day !

My favorite holiday of the year! I love everything about it… what can I say, I’m a sucker for romance. As you probably know, one of the biggest traditions that many people have every year is to give Valentine’s Day cards. But I must confess… I have a bad habit of always forgetting to grab a card ahead of time. Maybe I just get too swept up in all the love in the air to remember?

Fortunately, my problem was solved this year when I used the Same Day Pickup service at Walgreens to personalize a card and pick it up in about an hour. All you have to do is choose a photo from your online Walgreens Photo account (a personal touch they’ll love), pick a template (plenty to choose from), create a message on the inside and outside of the card, and then select a store near you for pickup! Even better, Folded Cards are on sale this week for 99¢ (use coupon code LOVE99 at checkout), AND they come with an envelope. What more could you ask for?

I also like to give a small gift with my card. They’re only 99¢ so why not? Traditional pairings always work great- roses, chocolates, or a nice wine.

What are some other ideas for Valentine’s Day gift pairings that you’ve given and they’ve loved?

I hope you enjoy my favorite holiday. And if you’re a procrastinator too…hopefully you’ll like your last minute Folded Card even more! : )

Order for a Friend – send your prints to any Walgreens!

What do a semi-surly bachelor in Colorado and an energetic toddler in Illinois have in common? Me.

My brother (the bachelor) and my daughter (the energetic toddler) have a bond that transcends distance. I’d like to think that has a little something to do with me. I’ve been showing my daughter pictures of my brother for years, and I’ve been sending my brother pictures of Abby since she was born.

Walgreens makes it easy. They have a great feature that I use called “Order for a Friend.

I just upload my photos online, enter my brother’s contact info and my credit card, and it sends my photos directly to his local store. That way he can pick up great shots when he picks up his prescriptions, shampoo, etc… Best of all, Walgreens lets him know when the photos are ready, so it’s one less thing I have to do. Gotta love that!

No matter what their uncle/niece relationship ends up being like, it’s my job to make sure that Abby knows what her uncle looks like – AND that my brother knows what the little one is up to. It must be working– Abby already adores her uncle and wants to be just like him. Let’s hope she doesn’t pick up all of his habits, like giving my toys to the neighbor kids. Brothers can be so annoying.

Instagram: My Obsession

Instagram is a ridiculously fun, free iPhone app that’s growing in users and reputation at an amazing rate. You simply take a picture, select a filter (if any), and then upload it to any number of social networking sites. It’s trendy, cool, and most importantly, really easy to get the hang of.

Instagram’s filters are by far the most addictive part of Instagram – they give your photos a sense of nostalgia like you would see in a Polaroid. For example, one new option is the “live filter.” It lets you see the change in the image before you shoot. You can also give your photos different colored hues, dirty them up, use filters that give you unusual saturation and lighting combos… anything you fancy. Also, Instagrams are presented as 4:4 instead of 4:3 aspect ratio, so your shots get a retro feel that’s unique.

Wanna show off those shots? Walgreens makes an 8×8 Custom Cover Photo Book that fits your photos perfectly. I’ve found that organizing my Instagrams by category is a really fun way to show things that are interesting to me. For example, I’ve organized my shots (as seen above) by categories such as:

  • Food
  • Accessories
  • Buildings
  • Dogs

Walgreens also features a 4×6 Brag Book that’s easily collectible and meant to be passed out…why not make something trendy that your friends will get a kick out of? You could even have an “Instagram Party” where the attendees all bring an Instagram Brag Book, and then everyone trades! (like a gift swap)

By far, the biggest advantage to Instagram is that it gives you another level of social connection to people with similar interests. You’re not just showing off random pictures- you’re trading spontaneous art. It’ll change the way you take pictures forever!

How to win their heart (with Walgreens Photo products)

Hello lovebirds! My name is Nick, and I’m your guest blogger/tour guide this week.

Let me share with you a few of my tips and tricks for how to win your main squeeze’s heart through Walgreens Photo Products. Trust me… it’s simple, fun and they’ll be swooning in no time. Let’s start by looking at a few Photo products that tactfully show them that you care.

Cupid’s crafty Photo Canvases

An inspired choice. It’s something they won’t expect- different than, “I put a picture in a frame and wrapped it up.” Photo Canvases are great for Valentine’s Day because you can take one of the assuredly adorable pics of the two of you. You’ll also make something crafty that they’ll want to hang in their apartment so everyone can see it. For instance…got any photos of the two of you at the beach making silly faces? Perfect. It’ll brighten their day every time they see it, and it’s thinking outside the box.

Hotter than ever Photo Mugs

Are they a coffee drinker? Fan of hot tea? Loves what piercing eyes you have in pictures?
If any of the above hold true, you’re in luck. Photo Mugs are a great gift for your partner if they want to see you wherever they take it. Plus, you can always ask them, “So, which is hotter, the coffee or me? Eh? Come on…” and then hold up the mug and point at your face. That’s guaranteed to work at least 30 percent of the time. Regardless, they’re bound to love it every morning.

Photo Cards for sweetie pies

Classic. This is a nice little addition to whatever else you may have planned. You can select your own photo to place on the front of the card, and even better, many of the cards are available for Same Day Pickup, so if you happen to be the kind of person that waits until the last minute to get cards for Valentine’s Day (yes, I’m talking about myself) you’re in luck. They’ll love that you took the time to make your own Photo Card, and you get the satisfaction of knowing that you didn’t just choose a generic card like your friends did.

Do something special for your loved one this year. I promise they’ll love it, and you get to give them something that shows that you put some thought into it. It’s thoughtful, easy and romantic. Happy Valentine’s Day!
