Rainy Day Photography

Hello Springlings!

Spring is here, but have no fear. It may be the rainy season, but it’s also prime time for alluring picture-taking. Next time you hear the pitter-patter on your roof, do the unthinkable: go outside and embrace it!

Get in your car or saunter beneath your colorful umbrella and start snapping pics of the beauteous drops falling from the dark, dreary clouds against the luminous city lights (or barren suburban streets, or luscious green landscape – wherever you may be).

Once you have a camera full of unique snapshots, there’s so much you can do!

  • Put them into a rainy day photography photobook you’ll have forever.
  • Choose your favorite few and put them in glass prints, sure to make them stand out in your home, on your mantle, on your nightstand – anywhere!
  • If you can narrow your favorites down to 12, you can make a personalized photo calendar for your home or office.
  • You can even turn your favorite few into a poster set to give as a gift to a family member or friend who you know will appreciate it.

Need some inspiration?
Check out this wondrous compilation I came across on onextrapixel.com while researching. There are 80 enchanting hand-picked photos of rain photography.

Pretty sweet, eh?

Happy Photographing! Get crafty and embrace the creative YOU.

Birthday cards and stickers? Yes, please!

This week, I’m going to show two really fun ways to make a birthday party fabulously personalized. Let’s jump right into it!

Cupcake stickers!

If you want to try something a little trendier than a traditional cake, try personalizing a batch of cupcakes with stickers of the birthday boy or girl! It’ll make them feel special, and they’re so easy to make! Yummm!!!

All you need are:

  • Some of your favorite cupcakes (I’d go with red velvet and vanilla frosting, but that’s just me)
  • Toothpicks or colored straws cut to size
  • Photo stickers featuring the star of the party

Or, use a picture of them with some of their friends! Either way, your cupcakes are sure to be a sweet success.

Photo invites!

Everyone loves getting a custom invitation, so make one with a picture of the birthday boy or girl on the front (in pirate or princess costume, if you wish) then add the party details! Photo invites are more playful than generic ones, and the guests will be impressed by the personalized invite.

Jelly Bean Contest

Happy Spring!

We’d love for you to participate in our Jellybean Contest, in honor of the beginning of the new, vibrant season, warm weather and our love of making your day by giving away free stuff!

I’ve been waiting for the contest to begin. Want to know the REAL reason why?

This jar of jellybeans has been sitting on my desk for the past week. Five whole days of the colorful, quirky, delectably delicious little mouth-watering candies just sitting here. Staring at me. All day long.

I haven’t indulged at all. Not even one or two tiny handfuls. Swear.

Talk about willpower.

Ok so back to the contest…

How it works:

Simply guess the number of jellybeans in the jar. The person who guesses closest to the correct number without going over wins a 12×12 canvas print featuring a festively hued spring flower, what a masterpiece!

How to enter your guess:

You must guess the number in the comment section of this blog post. Only one guess per person will be allowed, so make sure to make it a good one!

To Note:

• Remember, if you guess OVER, your guess does not count.

• The contest is on right now!

• The contest ends at 11:59 CST on Saturday, April 7th.

Make sure to get your guess in by then!

• If more than one person guesses correctly, the winner will be the person who

posted their guess first!

Psst…want a hint? I’ve done some digging around and have decided to help you out…Remember, there are 930 jelly beans in a US gallon.

That’s it! Happy guessing and good luck.

Tips and Tricks: Pet Photography

Woof!

Meet Clancy and Papoo. Clancy is the regal statesman of the house. Sitting, observing, holding court, butting into conversations. And then there’s, my dear, sweet Papoo. Food is on the brain with that dog 24/7. Always scavenging for a snack. Petting? Not interested. Doing tricks? Waste of time. Unless there’s biscuit bribery involved, forget it. But yes…they’re adorable.

As you can imagine, they’re a mainstay on my camera. Like most obsessed dog owners, I’m always camera ready. To my fellow canine lovers, I’m going to share a few tips and tricks for taking charming photos of your furry family.

1) Capture them in their element.
Embrace their personality! If you’ve got a lazy pup who loves lounging around the house, show their audacity taking up the whole couch. Now, if they’re a big ham who loves the spotlight, capture them while they perform a favorite trick. Even better, get a shot of their panting tongue hanging out after!

2) Mix it up.
Pet photography can require some patience, which means you might be taking a lot of pictures. Vary your pics by shooting from different angles or by focusing on one part of their body (eyes, paws, snout…what catches your attention?) Or get them doing a signature pose…like when Clancy falls asleep on his back with his mouth open on the couch.

3) Use natural lighting.
The flash on your camera can startle your pet, so if possible, try to photograph them using natural light, either by a large window or outdoors.

If you follow these three tips, you’re off to a fantastic start getting fun, unforgettable shots of your pets in their element. After you’ve gotten the hang of it, you can even show off your skills by turning your photos into a Photo Book or a Canvas hung in your living room.

Enlarged photos – a season for change!

Spring is upon us. You know what that means – bright colors, flowers in bloom, and warmer weather! Get energized and spruce up your living space with renewed décor and enlarged photos.

Start by choosing a crisp new color for your living room walls or bedroom walls. Now, for your favorite pictures, photo enlargements are a great way to create a focal point. At Photo by Walgreens, you can actually turn your greatest prints into 8×10 enlargements in about an hour. You can even place your order at walgreens.com/photo and pick them up at your nearest store. Enlargements are eye catching and distinct. Plus, they look fantastic in a frame.

Oh, and about that frame…why not hunt for something unique and colorful at a thrift shop or garage sale? Try looking for bold colors or different textures.

Putting out new photos is another way to freshen up your space. Every few months, try mixing things up…live in the moment! For example, if you’ve had your winter photos out for a few months, why not display some classic beach shots to get excited for spring and summer?

Let me know if you have any tips for changing things up!
